Printcore › Wide Format Estimating Software

Wide format estimating software that nests the roll before it prices it

Square-foot pricing hides the offcut. Printcore lays your job out on the actual roll width, rotates where rotating helps, shows the waste percentage in the estimate, and prices the substrate from what you really paid for it.

The flat-rate problem

Why a price per square foot is always wrong

Almost every wide-format shop has a rate card in dollars per square foot. It is a reasonable way to talk to a customer and a poor way to work out what a job costs, because the roll does not care about your rate card.

A job that fits the roll width with an inch to spare and a job that leaves eleven inches of unusable strip down one side are charged identically and cost the shop very differently. Across a year that difference is not noise — it is a margin line that nobody has ever measured, because nothing in the quoting process ever looks at the layout.

The fix is not a better rate card. It is estimating that lays the job out first and prices the material it will genuinely consume.

Same square footage, different cost

Illustrative, and the exact numbers depend on your roll and your bleed — but the shape is the point. Orientation and roll width change material consumption dramatically while square footage barely moves.

What the estimator does instead

Live nesting, visible waste, your substrate costs

The wide-format engine treats the roll as the unit of cost, because that is what you buy.

It nests the layout

Pieces are laid out across the real roll width, with rotation applied where rotation saves material, before any number is produced.

It shows the waste percentage

The offcut appears in the estimate as a figure you can see and argue with, not as an assumption buried in a rate.

It prices from your inventory

Substrates come from your own material records at what you actually paid, including a connected supplier catalogue, rather than from a built-in table you cannot edit.

It handles the finishing

Hems, grommets, pole pockets, laminate, mounting and cutting are line-level costs with their own labour, not a percentage added at the end.

It breaks on run length

Quantity breaks fall out of the layout and the setup time rather than being typed into a discount table by hand.

It learns from the floor

Recorded production time on each completed operation is compared against the estimate for that operation and corrects future ones — the patent-pending self-correcting loop.

There is a working version of this on the AI print estimator page — a free wide-format calculator you can put your own roll width and substrate cost into without signing up for anything.

Beyond the roll

Wide format is rarely the whole order

A wide-format request almost never arrives alone. The banner comes with rigid signs, a run of decals, sometimes a wrap and sometimes a booklet. Estimating software that only prices the roll sends the rest of the order back to a spreadsheet.

All six engines produce one estimate. If the fabrication and install side is the bigger part of your work, the sign estimating software page covers that angle in more detail.

Getting started

The first thing to do is re-quote a job you already priced

Not a migration, not a data import, not a demo call. Take a job you priced last week and know the right answer to, and put it through.

Printcore is developed inside Paramount Graphics, a working wide-format shop in Cumming, Georgia. The roll nesting exists because a real estimate needed it, not because it demos well. The walkthrough library shows every module screen by screen before you sign up.

Questions

Wide format estimating, answered

What is wide format estimating software?

Wide format estimating software prices large-format print jobs from a shop's own substrate costs, equipment speeds and labour rates. The feature that separates it from general print estimating is that it models the roll: how the job lays out across the roll width, how much material the layout actually consumes, and what the offcut costs. Pricing wide format from a flat rate per square foot ignores all of that.

Does it show how much material a job will waste?

Yes, as a waste percentage in the estimate itself. The layout is nested across your real roll width with rotation applied where it saves material, and the offcut is shown as a number rather than absorbed into a rate. That makes it possible to see which jobs are quietly expensive before you quote them.

Can I price from my own substrate costs?

Yes, and that is the intended setup. Materials come from your own inventory records at what you actually paid, and a connected supplier catalogue keeps costs current. Until you have entered your own numbers the quote screen states plainly that it is using generic industry rates, so you always know which prices are yours.

Does it handle laminate, hems, grommets and mounting?

Finishing is costed at line level with its own material and labour, rather than as a percentage added to the print. Hems, grommets, pole pockets, laminate, mounting and cutting each carry their own cost, which is what makes the margin figure on the estimate worth anything.

Is there a free wide format calculator I can try first?

Yes. There is a shop-editable wide-format calculator on the AI print estimator page that you can put your own roll width, substrate cost and labour rate into without signing up. It runs the same shape of calculation the full estimator does.

Will it price the rest of the order too?

Printcore has six estimating engines — wide format, cut vinyl, vehicle wraps, channel letters, digital press and offset, and booklets — and a single request containing several of them comes back as one estimate with each line routed to the right engine.

How accurate are the estimates over time?

They improve. Recorded production time on each completed operation is compared against what was estimated for that operation type, and future estimates of that type are corrected. This is the patent-pending self-correcting loop, and it exists because time standards set at install and never revisited are how every estimating system drifts.

What does it cost and how long does setup take?

A free 30-day trial with every feature switched on and no credit card, then three plans with unlimited team members on all of them, quoted per shop. Setup is about fifteen minutes: describe the shop in a sentence and the AI Setup Assistant builds the stations, materials and pricing defaults you then adjust.
